LECTURES
Week 1 (INTRODUCTION & BRIEFING)
27th August 2021 (FRIDAY)
Mr Vinod first explained the important posts in the Facebook Typography Group. He showed us the important documents and reference materials needed for the course, and how he provided feedback on our work. Mr Vinod gave us some time to set up our blog as our electronic portfolio and submit our assignments. Mr Vinod and Dr Charles randomly select some people to check whether we are doing the right thing, to ensure that the necessary information is provided in our post.
Then, Mr Vinod gave us a detailed introduction to our first task-typesetting exercises. We suggested various words with different meanings, Mr. Vinod compiled them into a poll and put them on Facebook to vote for us. Each of us has chosen a word, and the top 8 words in the poll will be our choice in Typesetting Task 1.
Week 2 (THE EVOLUTION OF TYPOGRAPHY)
3 September 2021 (FRIDAY)
Today is the second day of class. First, Mr Vinod asked us to submit our draft text to the comment section at the Typography Group. Then in the next step, Mr Vinod started to instruct us how to export our work as ".jpeg". After Mr Vinod demonstrated how to do it, he began to randomly select and give feedback. After giving feedback, Mr Vinod divided us into 10 groups of discussion rooms, each of which consisted of 4 students. Mr Vinod said that we must give some feedback on our friends' sketches. Before the group, Mr Vinod gave us some questions as guidelines for how we can provide feedback.
problem:
1. Is the exploration sufficient?
2. Does the expression match the meaning of the word?
3. In the range of 1-5, how strong is this idea?
4. How to improve the work?
Finally, our lecturer showed us our senior year's electronic portfolio, which will be our guide on what an electronic portfolio should look like.
Week 3
10 September 2021 (FRIDAY)
Today is the third day of class. Mr Vinod asked us to submit our 4 digital type expressions to the comment section at the Typography group. Then the next step, Mr Vinod and Dr Charles starting giving our work feedback. After finishing the feedback, Mr Vinod consisted of 4 students in 1 group to the breakout room, this breakout room is for watching the youtube video on how to do the animated type expression and discussing together. After 15 minutes, we go back to the main room and Mr Vinod tell us to submit our animated (GIF) to the comment section in the Typography group. Mr Vinod and Dr Charles start randomly picking some students for giving feedback.
Week 4
17 September 2021 (FRIDAY)
Today, Mr Vinod explained to us the KREATIF beat and the rally of troublemakers on Facebook. Mr Vinod gave us 4 links, one is FB, the other is INSTAGRAM, a Twitter, and a KREATIF website. He said there have a lot of beautiful works or references to get more knowledge. After the explanation, every second counts, and he started discussing our gif. During the discussion, Mr Vinod and Dr CHarles randomly selected a few people to give our classmates gif feedback. After the discussion, Mr Vinod started to explain to us the next exercise and how to use our blog.
QUESTION:
Animation
- Is the animation suitable?
- Does the animation reflect or enhance the meaning of the word?
- Does the animation reflect the form being expressed?
- Does the animation create a smile in your mind?
- How can it be improved?
Mr Vinod say next week is the last day to submit our exercise 2, he told us to watch the lecture video that Mr Vinod send to the Typography group.
Week 5
24 September 2021 (FRIDAY)
Today, Mr Vinod explained to us about Task 2. When he explains task 2, Mr Vinod and Dr Charles mark our Exercise 1& 2, then we going to watch the youtube video about task 2 and do corrections our Exercise 1&2.
INSTRUCTIONS
TASK 1: EXERCISE 1- TYPE EXPRESSION
27th August 2021 (WEEK 1)
For Exercise 1, Mr Vinod has given us a set of words to create type expressions of. Those words are scream, slice, wave, punch, point and eat. No graphical elements are allowed, we are limited to only 10 typefaces which are Adobe Caslon Pro, Bembo, Bodoni, Futura, Gill Sans, Garamond, New Baskerville, Janson, Serifa and Univers.

FIGURE 1.1
THE EIGHT-WORD VOTE AT FACEBOOK GROUP
In the typography class, Mr Vinod asked each of us to come up with a meaningful word. Then, Mr Vinod will create a survey containing our words in the Facebook group chatbox. Our next step is to vote on the three words seen in the survey provided by Mr Vinod. Any words that make it into the top eight of the survey will be the only choice for the first practice next week.
I chose:
WATER
TERROR
BROKEN
ABYSS

FIGURE 3.1
FIRST TIME DIGITAL
When Mr Vinod and Dr Charles gave feedback on my homework, they said that when I designed these, I would use the 10 TYPEFACEs given by Mr Vinod at that time.
UPDATED:
FOUR WORD DIGITAL THAT I LIKE:
FIGURE 3.2 BROKEN
BROKEN design concept is broken things, I thought the idea of this design is to accidentally break the glass.
FIGURE 3.3 WATER
I designed to put the object into the water and look directly in front of the object to see the reflection of the object in the water. The design idea for this comes from a fairy tale, a greedy dog
FIGURE 3.4 ABYSS
Among the four, ABYSS is my favourite one. The concept of this design is to fall into a deep cave. The idea is that when I sleep, I dream of a scene that I fall into a deep cave.
FIGURE 3.5 TERROR
In this design, I made the object into a bleeding state, and then I drew a hand hitting the glass directly below to show the horror of this design.

FIRST ATTEMPT AT ANIMATING "ABYSS"
The font needs to use the 10 typefaces given by Mr Vinod, the font is a bit stuck when it falls, and then it falls a bit fast, and the speed needs to be reduced.
FIGURE 4.2
FINAL ANIMATING TIMELINE (31 FRAME)
I ended up using 31 frames, then I changed the falling speed and changed the font

Specific Feedback:
Specific Feedback:
- The third picture WATER (in the water) should be lighter and more emphasis
- The first picture TERROR is better because less use of other visual stuff
- The third picture TERROR word can be bigger a bit so the word can become the centre of attention
- For the BROKEN second picture is better than the other two because it really shows broken
- First picture ABYSS has potential but needs to arrange it a little better
- Third picture ABYSS black & white part can be reserved
General Feedback:
- Everything is nice just got some words that need to make it clear and big.
Week 3:
Specific Feedback:
The design of ABYSS is very creative and has a feeling of dropping. Then the reflection of the water has deepen a bit, and then Terror feels like a demon chasing people
General feedback:
The fonts need to be changed to those 10 typefaces
Week 4:
Specific Feedback:
Abyss dropping speed need lower down a bit
General Feedback:
Must use 10 typeface
Week 5:
Specific Feedback:
TASK 1-Exercise 1: Terror uses a hand- NOT allowed
TASK 1-Exercise 2: Submit only 1 final
General Feedback:
The black background makes it difficult to read or discern sections. Preferably use a neutral tone. The lecture has not been watched.
REFLECTION
EXPERIENCE
Based on my experience, to be honest, in the first week I still don’t understand this subject very well, and I am also very nervous. When the lecturer spoke, I started to calm down slowly because I found that the class was very joyful. When the lecturer explained it, I was very nervous. Listen carefully because I am afraid that I will miss anything. After the explanation, the lecturer began to arrange the homework. I felt very excited because this time the homework was to design fonts.
OBSERVATION
In my observation, I have observed that when I do something, I learn to be very focused. Almost no one responds to someone adding me. I can use and retain information more effectively. I have also observed that my sketch is not perfect and needs further improvement.
FINDING
I found that my assignment still needs improving as I’m unable to convey my thoughts or ideas as effectively.
I must make it a point to document my progress with more diligence or I will lose points but more importantly, my record and narration of my process get impeded. Note to self; document the work!
